Changzhou Institute of Technology (hereafter called CIT) is a local full-time general institute of higher learning founded in April of 1978. It is situated in the Changzhou High Technology Development District. It occupies an area of 32 hectares with a total floor space of 141,303 square meters. The teaching facilities and equipment are worth up to 35.45 million yuan RMB. The college library has a collected 381,000 copies of books, 1,100 kinds of newspapers and journals in Chinese and in foreign languages, more than 1,000 copies of electronic books and information searches CD-ROM and books in value of 100,000 US dollars in original foreign languages edition (bought with a loan from the World Bank). Among 356 full-time teachers 113 are with senior titles for professional posts, which is about 31.8% of the total number. Now the college has formed a contingent of teachers, which is highly qualified in competence, reasonable in structure, diligent in work, precise in the pursuing of their studies. There are 3,600 students studying on campus including 278 students studying in undergraduate courses. The number of adult education programs students is 850.

    The college has established Mechanical Engineering Department, Electrical Engineering Department, Computer Application Engineering Department, Civil Engineering Department, Quality Technology Engineering Department, Economic Management Department and Language and Literature Department, and two independent divisions in charge of foundation studies and social science, offering 12 undergraduate courses, in specific: Mechanical Design, Manufacture and Automation, Industrial Design, Electrical Engineering and Automation, Electronic Information Engineering, Computer Science & Technology, Civil Engineering, Industrial and Business Administration, International Economy and Trade, Accounting, Chinese Language & Literature (Senior Secretary), English (English for Foreign Trade) and 15 junior college courses: Technology & Equipment of Machine-Building, Design and Manufacture of Moulds, Computer Application and Maintenance, Electrical Automation of Industry, Applies Electronic Technology, Building Construction Engineering, Architectural Decoration Technology, Technology and Management of Measuring and Testing, Technology and Management of Quality Inspection, Industrial Enterprise Management, Accounting, Economy & Trade, English, Secretary and Nursing. 30 specializations are also available in English for Foreign Trade, English for Foreign Affairs, Japanese etc. The college has set up 5 central laboratories in the fields of mechanical engineering, electronic engineering, inspection & measurement, civil engineering and computer engineering. A modern teaching technologies center and 5 on-campus practice bases are available in the areas of metalworking, electronics, electric engineering, architectural engineering and computer comprehensive applications training.

    In the past 20 years, CIT has cultivated for the Changzhou area and other provinces and municipalities 9,000 high-level and talented personnel of technology and administration either at college or university level and 10,000 non-degree educational personnel.

     The college is keen to make amicable association with foreign districts and institutions and to cooperate with them in teaching programs. Leaders and teachers of the college have exchanged visits with, and cooperated with, personalities in education circles in Britain, the United States, Japan, Canada, Germany, Australia and Korea. It was one of the participating colleges in the Sino-Canadian co-operative Project on Post-Secondary Vocational & Technical Education. An international educational program, the "Industrial Coatings Applicator Training Project" was successfully operated by CIT and its Canadian sister college Southern Alberta Institute of Technology. CIT has reached the required standards for hiring foreign teaching experts and receiving overseas students. Each year certain number of overseas students from Germany、 Canada、 Japan、 and Korea etc. come to attend Chinese Language course at CIT.
